ROAD GEAR RACK MOUNTING INSTRUCTIONS

The rack has been designed and tested in conjunction with a Road Gear Truck Equipment, LLC mounting kit.

Danger!  Misuse or misapplication of this product can cause serious injury or death.  Road Gear Truck Equipment, LLC cannot be held liable for any product failure when not installed as directed and/or installed without a Road Gear Truck Equipment, LLC mounting kit.

Warning!  Possible danger to the operator or a bystander may occur if you ignore this information.

Caution!   Risk to the product. If you ignore this information, the rack system or the trailer could be damaged.

Step 1: Installing the Road Gear Rack

1.   Position the rack on the frame of the semi tractor using a suitable device like a forklift or overhead hoist. Position the rack so that the I-beam trusses in the rear are approximately 1” to 2” from the rear of the tractor cab. Place a rubber wear strip between the rack and each tractor frame rail. See Figure 1.

Caution: If there are projections from the rear of your cab, make sure the sway of your cab does not interfere with the rack. This sway is typically 8” side-to-side for an air ride cab.

Warning: Be sure to put a temporary space between the rack and the tractor frame when placing the rubber wear strips or severe injuries to hands and/or fingers will result.

2.   Clamp the rack to the tractor frame using the Road Gear Mounting Kit.  It is important that the u-bolt be at a 90-degree angle with the tractor frame. Place first u-bolt 1 ½” behind knee/foot joint. Place second u-bolt 17” ahead of previous bolt.  (For 73”x78” & 75”x86” rack, this dimension is 21”)

See figure 1.

3.   Tighten the 5/8” nuts on all (4) u-bolts finger-tight. Be sure that the u-bolts are all at 90 degrees to the tractor frame. Tighten the nuts securely and torque them to 60 foot-pounds using a torque wrench.

Note: Road Gear Truck Equipment, LLC recommends that the rear u-bolts be cut off after they have been tightened to the proper torque. The u-bolts should be cut off at 1/8” above the nut as a safety precaution.
